*** How does DNS work at weboke.nl?
Below is a short explanation of how DNS works at weboke.nl.
We use 2 central nameservers, which are on separate subnets and in separate locations. If something happens to one nameserver, the other one simply keeps running.
- ns1.webawere.nl with IP address 83.96.159.26
- ns2.webawere.nl with IP address 188.122.88.125
If you have a hosting package with us, you always change the DNS records in the hosting package itself. The server your hosting package runs on will then synchronise the DNS changes with our central nameservers within a few minutes. However, if your changes contain errors, they will not be applied.
In the client area you can view My DNS for all your domains. If the domain is part of a hosting package, you can only view the DNS records there and you change them in the control panel of the hosting package itself. If the domain is not part of a hosting package, or you use our DNS packages, you can adjust your DNS entirely as you wish in My DNS.
If your domain name moves to a different IP address or server
If your domain name moves from ServerA to ServerB (for example from Windows hosting to Linux hosting), the central DNS also needs to be synchronised again with the new server. This almost always happens automatically, but you may also want to decide yourself when your domain starts pointing to the new server. In that case, click the Resynchronise domain with hosting button in the My Nameservers or My DNS menu.
Default DNS records at weboke.nl
- example.nl - A - <IP address>
- mail - A - <IP address>
- www - A - <IP address>
- ftp - A - <IP address>
- example.nl - MX mail.example.nl - 20 (note: in the control panel with a full stop after the second .nl)
- example.nl - MX nolisting.webawere.nl - 10 (note: in the control panel with a full stop after the second .nl)
- example.nl - NS - ns1.webawere.nl (note: in the control panel with a full stop after the second .nl)
- example.nl - NS - ns2.webawere.nl (note: in the control panel with a full stop after the second .nl)
- example.nl - TXT - "v=spf1 a mx include:webawere.nl ~all"
- Replace example.nl with your own domain name.
- The hyphens are only meant as separators here, so don't copy them.
- Replace <IP address> entirely with the IP address of the server (see client area, My Products, properties of the hosting product)
Once you have changed this in the hosting package, you can shortly afterwards check in the client area under My DNS whether the DNS records have correctly reached our central DNS.
Nameservers
As mentioned at the start of this article, we use the nameservers ns1.webawere.nl and ns2.webawere.nl. If you want to use other nameservers, do not change this in the hosting package, but change it via our website: go to the client area and choose My DNS/Nameservers. As soon as you enter other nameservers there, our DNS (in the hosting package or on our site) will no longer be used and traffic will go directly to the other nameservers and their DNS. From that moment on, you will no longer change DNS records with us but elsewhere.
